Why does the Council have to plan for so many more homes to be built than previously thought?

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires Local Plans to meet the full objectively assessed housing need for affordable and market housing in the housing market area. New forecasts have shown that the level of growth that was planned for in the Core Strategy and Pre Submission Draft Allocations Plan would not meet this need. For further information please see the reports in respect of the Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) and Objectively Assessed Housing Need (OAHN) taken to the Local Plan Sub-Committee meetings of 12th June 2014 and 3rd September 2014 respectively.
