Article 4 Directions

We currently have two Article 4 Directions in place within the District.

Silver End

In 1983 we introduced an Article 4 Direction for the Silver End Conservation Area which was amended in 1985. You can read the Article 4 Direction which sets out the full details and shows the location it covers in the plan.

Land off Back Lane, Stisted (also known as ‘Brook Farm’)

The Article 4 Direction was approved by the Secretary of State for ‘Land off Back Lane, Stisted’ also known as ‘Brooks Farm’ in March 2003 in order to protect the character and appearance of the rural area. It removes permitted development rights for the erection, construction, maintenance, improvement or alteration of gates, fences, walls or other means of enclosure and temporary buildings and other temporary uses. It also removes permitted development rights in relation to use of the land as a caravan site and other recreational use including the erection or placing of tents.

Planning permission from Braintree District Council will therefore be required for these works or changes of use.

You can read the Article 4 Direction which sets out the full details and shows the location it covers.
