Help from the Duty Planning Officer

The Duty Planning Officer can only give you general informal advice. They can help you with:

  • if you need to get planning permission
  • completing planning application forms and the plans that need to be submitted
  • general information and advice on national and local planning policy and processes

Advice the Duty Planning Officer doesn’t give

The Duty Planning Officer cannot:

  • give an opinion on whether or not we will grant planning permission. You should apply for Pre-Application advice for this
  • discuss the detail of current large or complex proposals. You will need to speak to the case officer
  • discuss the technical merits of applications, refusals, or appeals
  • agree to any minor amendments to planning permissions
  • discuss any planning enforcement enquiries or issues. You will need to speak to the enforcement team
  • discharge any planning conditions on a decision notice
  • advise whether your property has permitted development rights. You can find out what permitted development rights your property has. We aim to respond to your enquiry within 7 working days
