We have to complete a Housing Delivery Test (HDT) every year to make sure enough homes are being built to meet Braintree’s housing need.
The test compares the number of actual new homes built in Braintree District over the previous 3 years with the number of homes that were needed to meet the HDT target over that same period.
The most recent results published by the Government are the 2022 results, covering the period 2019-2022.
Number of homes needed:
Year |
Homes needed |
---|---|
2019-2020 |
655 |
2020-2021 |
477 |
2021-2022 |
717* |
Total number of homes needed 2019-2022: 1,849*
*The target for 2021/2022 is simply the adopted Local Plan average annual target. That target is 716, not 717 as stated in the Housing Delivery Test results published by the Government; this discrepancy has been queried with the Government and a response is awaited, but it does not affect the result in terms of % result, supply achieved against target.
Number of homes completed:
Year |
Homes completed |
---|---|
2019-2020 |
884 |
2020-2021 |
863 |
2021-2022 |
1,064 |
Total number of homes completed 2019-2022: 2,811
Results:
Housing Delivery Test 2022 measure: 152%
Housing Delivery Test 2021 consequence: None
As the delivery test result was above 95% there is no consequence, no action plan is required
