What is Braintree's Essex Energy Switching Scheme?
The Scheme aims to help residents get a better deal on their gas and/or electricity bills. The scheme is delivered in partnership with iChoosr an independent company that helps group people together to switch suppliers in order to get the best price.
If you've never switched energy supplier or if it has been a number of years, then your savings are likely to be high. Even if you do switch regularly it is still worth making a Registration to see if you could get a cheaper tariff.
What savings can be made?
An average household saving of £180 a year is currently being achieved, this amount is likely to increase if you haven’t switched in a few years.
How does the FREE scheme work?
Residents apply via an online form to register their interest. After this, an auction is held where energy companies compete against each other to provide their best possible tariffs. Auctions will be repeated through the year in February, May and October.
Everyone who registers will receive a personalised offer based on their annual usage. The offer shows how much they could save by switching provider or tariff.
The winning provider may be your current provider, this means you won’t necessarily switch provider but you may be offered a cheaper tariff.
Offers are sent out giving approx. 4 weeks to decide whether to change supplier/tariff or not. The tariffs are usually for a 12 month time period.
How can I register?
Registration will open on Tuesday 14th August for the Autumn auction which will be held on Tuesday 9th October.
Offers will be sent out from Monday 22nd October with closure on Tuesday 27th November.
It is FREE to make a Registration and there is NO obligation to switch providers.
Solar Together Essex
Essex County Council have partnered with iChoosr for a new initiative to install solar pv panels. The scheme is similar to energy switching. Register for free giving details of your roof, EPC rating and energy usage.
Registration is open now, with the auction taking place on 22nd August.
Offers will be sent out from Monday 10th September, you will have until 19th October to decide to accept the offer or not. If you accept the offer, the winning supplier will contact you to survey your roof and set an installation date. All installations are planned to be completed by the end of March 2019.
What happens if you or someone you know doesn't have the internet?
Residents who do not have internet access can ask a relative, neighbour or friend to assist and registrations can be made using their e-mail address. One e-mail address can be used up to five times to register for the scheme.
