  How to pay your Council Tax

  Scam alert

  We’re aware that some people have received an email that says, “We currently show no record of receiving your council tax payment for the current period”. The email is signed ‘Local Taxation Office’ and asks the recipient to click on a link "to confirm whether your payment has been received".

  This is a scam. If you receive this email, please delete it and don’t click on the link. Our Council tax team only send reminder notices via texts and letters. If you believe you have been a victim of this scam, report the matter to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit their website.

  Council Tax: Single Person Discount Review

  We are required by law to review all Council Tax payers who receive a 25% single person discount. We have approximately 21,380 payers who benefit from this discount, and whilst the majority of these claims are genuine, it is essential that we ensure the discount is only awarded to those who are entitled.We will be writing to residents who receive Single Person Council Tax Discount asking them to verify that their single person discount remains applicable or to update their details.

  If you receive a form, please sign and return it as soon as possible in order for us to verify your discount. If you are still the sole adult resident in your property your discount will continue.

  Residents can return the form via post or email a photograph of the completed form to counciltax@braintree.gov.uk
