Cloth nappies

Why use cloth nappies?

Money saving

From just £80 you can kit your baby out with all the nappies they will need. Even when you take into account laundering costs, you can save up to £1000 compared to disposable nappies.

Essex County Council is offering a £30 refund per child on the purchase of any cloth nappies or laundering service.

Better for the environment

Cloth nappies can be up to 40% better for the environment than disposables. A baby will need between 4000 and 6000 nappy changes in total, which can take hundreds of years to break down.

When using cloth nappies you can also reduce your water and electricity usage by not soaking or pre-washing. Simply wash on a full load at 40 to 60 degrees.

Plenty of choice and easy to use

There's fantastic variety of types, colours and styles available. Many cloth nappies are pre-shaped and fasten with poppers, grips or Velcro.

If you are uncertain on which is the right nappy for your child, you can try various type of nappies and have more information and advice on how to use them by contacting the Chelmsford and Colchester "nappy libraries":

Modern washing machines make quick work of cleaning them, and in some areas nappy laundering companies will do all the washing for you.
