Applying for absorbent hygiene products (AHP) collection

Collections, sacks and presenting your AHP waste

This page provides practical information about how AHP collections work day to day. It explains how often collections take place, how many sacks you will receive, how to request more sacks and how to present AHP waste correctly for collection. Reading this page will help ensure your waste is collected smoothly and safely.

How many AHP sacks will I receive?

Each household approved for the AHP collection service will receive up to 26 council issued AHP sacks.

This is the standard allocation.

Can I request more AHP sacks?

Yes.

If households use up more than the annual allocation sooner than expected, additional sacks can be requested via the Waste Management Portal.

These additional sacks are usually delivered with the next scheduled collection.

If you are unable to request AHP sacks online, you can contact Customer Services on 01376 552525 for assistance.

What if I have more AHP waste than my sacks can hold?

If you regularly produce more AHP waste than fits into your council issued AHP sacks, please contact the Waste Minimisation Team at or our Customer Service Team on 01376 552525 so we can discuss your needs and provide further support.

This applies when waste needs go beyond the occasional request for extra bags, for example due to medical conditions, changing care needs, or increased usage.

How should AHP waste be presented?

Only AHP waste should be placed in the grey AHP sacks issued by us.

Sacks that have not been issued by us will not be collected.

On the day of your scheduled AHP collection, AHP sacks must be presented at your usual waste presentation point or your agreed collection point including those residents receiving an assisted waste collection service.

For the general non-recyclable waste collection day, place authorised AHP bags inside your grey wheeled bin where there is space and the lid can fully close.

If the wheeled bin is full, AHP sacks may be placed next to the wheeled bin.

All bags should be securely tied.

How often is AHP waste collected?

Separate AHP collections take place the week before any scheduled general non-recyclable waste collection.

AHP waste can also be presented on your usual general non-recyclable waste collection day.

The AHP collection calendar, sent with the welcome pack, will provide full details of the collection schedule appropriate to your property.

Does the council provide storage solutions?

No.

We do not provide storage containers for AHP waste.

Residents are responsible for the safe storage of AHP sacks between collections in a suitable location on their property.

Can I receive an assisted collection service?

Yes.

Residents who receive assisted collections for other types of waste collection can also receive an assisted AHP waste collection service.

Apply for assisted collections or learn more.

If you are unable to apply for an assisted collection online, you can contact Customer Services on 01376 552525 for assistance.

If a resident already receives assisted collections for other waste streams, this support will automatically continue for AHP collections.
