Applying for absorbent hygiene products (AHP) collection

Check if you qualify for an AHP waste collection

This page explains who is eligible to receive the AHP collection service and for how long it can be provided. It also confirms whether there is a charge for the service and whether households are required to use it. Reading this page will help you check if your household qualifies before applying.

Who is eligible for the AHP Service?

Households with children in nappies who permanently live at the property are eligible until the child reaches the age of 4.

Individuals aged 4 and over who permanently live at the address and use incontinent products can receive the service for an initial period of up to three years.

Requests to extend the service beyond these time periods may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.

Who is not eligible for the service?

Households where the AHP user is only present part‑time.

Applications for the AHP service relating to children living across more than one household will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Where parents or carers have a 50/50 or broadly equal shared-care residential arrangement and the child regularly resides at two separate properties, each property may be eligible to apply for the AHP service, subject to assessment.

Childminders, nurseries and similar settings, as their waste is classed as trade waste and must be disposed of through commercial waste services.

Does the AHP collection service cost anything?

The AHP collection service is free of charge.

Must I use the service if my household generates AHP waste?

No, our AHP collection service is optional.

Households can continue to dispose of AHP waste in the general non-recyclable wheeled bin or sack.

It must be presented in line with the usual rules for the collection of household non-recyclable waste collection, including bin size and collection frequency.

AHP waste presented in sacks not issued by BDC and presented outside of the wheeled bin (side waste) will not be collected.
