Description 

A refuse strategy provides details of how your proposal deals with bin storage and collection. 

Guidance 

You need to submit a refuse strategy if your proposal; 

• includes bin storage 
• is for a new dwelling 

You can show bin storage on the block plan you submit as part of your application. 

If your proposal is for a major development, you must submit a separate plan, showing bin storage. 

The drawings you submit must: 

• show the appropriate bin storage 
• identify various collection points 
• confirm that refuse vehicles can function within the development 
• be at a scale of 1:100, 1:200 or 1:500 depending on size of development and context 
• show the tracked route of a 26 tonne refuse freighter negotiating the route it will need to take around proposed development

We may publish any information you submit as part of your application. You must tell us if there is any information you do not want us to publish when you submit your application.  

If however, we believe that this information is in the public interest, we reserve the right to publish it.  

We may also decide parts of your submission are not in the public interest and may redact this information. This information may include telephone numbers, email addresses and signatures. 

Depending on the details of your application, you may have to submit a contamination risk assessment when you are making an application for: 

• Agricultural development
• Certificate of lawful use for a proposed development
• Certificate of lawful use for an existing development 
• Change of use
• Commercial, industrial and non-residential 
• Discharge of conditions
• Non-material amendment 
• Outline permission with all reserved matters
• Outline permission with some reserved matters
• Permission in principle 
• Removal or variation of conditions 
• Reserved matters
• Residential new build
• Technical details consent 

If your application is for one of these types of planning permission, you need to submit an amenity garden plan if your proposal includes: 

• includes bin storage 
• is for a new dwelling
