Postponed elections
Essex County Council Elections - Postponed
Essex County Council applied to the Government to cancel the elections due in May 2025. This is a side-effect of Essex County Council (alongside Thurrock and Southend City Councils) applying to join the Governments 'Devolution Priority Programme' to introduce a directly-elected Mayor for Essex.
The planned elections did not go ahead in May 2025.
Our next elections will be held on Thursday 7 May 2026.

The Local Authorities (Changes to Years of Ordinary Elections) (England) Order 2025 will come into force on 4 March 2025.
The Order postponed elections to East Sussex, West Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Suffolk, Surrey, and Thurrock, for one year and extended the terms of incumbent councillors accordingly.
