Adoption of  Braintree District Local Plan 2013-2033 North Essex Authorities’ Shared Strategic Section 1 Plan

We have formally adopted the Braintree District Local Plan 2013-2033 North Essex Authorities’ Shared Strategic Section 1 Plan (hereafter the ‘Section 1 Plan). This decision was made at the meeting of the Full Council on Monday 22 February 2021.

Why does the Council have to plan for so many more homes to be built than previously thought?

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires Local Plans to meet the full objectively assessed housing need for affordable and market housing in the housing market area. New forecasts have shown that the level of growth that was planned for in the Core Strategy and Pre Submission Draft Allocations Plan would not meet this need. Plans to review and update the Council's Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)

The SHLAA is available on the website. The SHLAA was originally agreed by Local Plan Sub-Committee in November 2015.
