After you have reported your problem
We will acknowledge your report of a tree problem within one working day. We will also tell you:
- who is dealing with your enquiry
- the priority of your enquiry
- how long it will take us to resolve your enquiry
Carry out an inspection
We will carry out an inspection of the tree within 30 days of receiving your enquiry.
If you have reported that the tree is dangerous, we will carry out the inspection within 24 hours.
Priority system for carrying out remedial tree work
As part of our inspection, we will identify what remedial work we need to carry out to resolve the problem. We assess remedial work on a priority basis which reflects:
- the risk of danger to the public or property
- the level of inconvenience caused by the problem with the tree
- the best time of year for us to carry out our work
Where remedial work is needed we will either:
- pass it to a contractor if we need to take immediate
- or put it on a schedule of works based on its priority
We prioritise work as follows:
Priority 1
If the tree needs emergency work to remove a hazard:
- we will aim to complete the work within 72 hours of the tree inspection. This could be longer depending on the availability of fo contractors (particularly during storm events).
- restrict public access to the tree and surrounding area until we have carried out the work
Priority 2
If the tree needs essential work to remove a potential hazard or contact with a building;
- we will complete the work within six weeks of the tree inspection
- restrict public access to the tree and surrounding area until we have carried out the work
Priority 3
If the tree needs non-essential maintenance work, we will:
- carry out the work within 12 months of the tree inspection
- carry it out at the right time of year
- carry out other work including cyclical pruning, pollarding and coppicing
- restrict public access to the tree and surrounding area until we have carried out the work
