How we handle your recycling
We send everything we collect to a waste transfer station. The waste transfer station then sends the waste to different processing plants:
- food waste goes to an Anaerobic Digestion plant, where it's transformed into soil fertiliser and energy
- recycling from clear sacks goes to a Material Recovery Facility plant, where it is sorted into various materials and sub-types (different polymers for plastic, different types and qualities for paper, cardboard and tins). After this, it goes to other plants where they reprocess each material into new items
- garden waste goes to an Open Windrow Composting plant, where it is turned into compost
- glass bottles and jars are sent to a reprocessing facility and recycled into new items
