Parent/Carer information sessions

The Braintree District Community Safety Partnership is inviting parents and carers to free information and awareness sessions to hear the latest on all things drugs and alcohol, gang and knife crime

The sessions will give parents and carers useful tips and an insight into the issues children and young people face in today’s modern society.

Social Media & the Internet

These sessions will be run by the 2 Johns. The sessions aim to bring you up-to-date regarding the apps your children are using, and how they could be directly targeted in that environment by paedophiles. Those attending will be provided with figures as to the number of children and young people that have been spoken to online within the previous week, figures which will undoubtedly shock anyone that attends.

Gang & Knife Crime

These sessions will be run by Gavin McKenna from Reach Every Generation who exist to shape a better future for tomorrows generation. The session is designed to educate parents and carers on gangs and gang culture, understand the warning signs of potential gang involvement or association and how to act. It will cover the increasing role of social media for gang recruitment and the behavioural patterns to watch out for.

Drugs & Alcohol

These sessions will be run by Action on Addiction who are a national charity. They will cover the most commonly used illicit substances used by young people including former legal highs and alcohol use. They will discuss ways to talk with your child about substances, look at brief intervention techniques and who to contact should you require additional support and advice.

Child Sexual Exploitation

These sessions will be run by the Children’s Society who are a national charity that runs local projects, helping children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable, and have nowhere left to turn. It aims to help parents and carers understand what Child Sexual Exploitation is and how to spot the signs, issues around sexting and internet safety, consent, and services that can offer support.
