Guidance for tenants

Rent and payment issues

This page explains what the Renters Rights Act 2025 means for tenants living in the Braintree District when it comes to rent and payment issues.

We explain how rent should be paid, when rent can be increased and what your options are if you are struggling financially.

Read the official GOV.UK website guide to the Renters’ Rights Act for tenants.

  • How should I pay my rent?

Your rent should be paid in the way agreed in your tenancy agreement. This is usually monthly and paid in advance.

You should make sure payments are made on time to avoid falling into rent arrears.
