Organising an event

Planning an event

Voluntary and community events are an important aspect of everyday life that help encourage people to play a more active part in society.

We want to make it as easy as possible to plan and hold an event, whether it is to mark a one off occasion or simply to raise money for charity or bring the community closer together.

The Department for Culture and Local Government (DCLG) have produced a Can Do guide to provide a central resource for people planning a range of community-led events.

The aim of the Can Do guide is to:

  • dispel the myths about what you need to do
  • help people to plan and run successful events with a minimum of red tape

If you are planning an event, the Can Do guide signposts you to specialist advice, such as DCLG’s guidance on organising street parties.

You can talk to our Licencing team if you would like further advice or guidance about any licensing requirements for your event.
