Social Car Scheme
If you live in the district our Social Car Scheme may be able to help you access your local community and its services. Please be aware we are supported by volunteer drivers and requests depend on their availability.
Our Social Car Scheme may be able to offer transport for:
- Local health related appointments
- Local shopping trips – you will need to be flexible on times
- Visiting friends and family
- Attending clubs
- Attending day centres
There is a £23 annual membership fee to join the scheme, you then pay a contribution towards the cost of your journey – most journeys cost £4 each way as long as the distance is no further than five miles.
If you are a wheelchair user or unable to get in and out of a car, please call to discuss our dial-a-ride scheme.
How it works
- Call the office on 01376 557883 between 9.00 and 16.30 Monday to Friday to request your booking at least 24 hours before your journey is required
- Tell us the date of your journey, pick up time, destination, return time and return pick-up point
- A journey costs £4.00 for up to 5 miles or 80p per mile if your journey is over 5 miles
- You pay for each journey in cash direct to your driver who will give you a receipt on request
- Trips can be requested between 8.30 and 16.30 Monday to Friday
- Request your trip as soon as you know you need to travel however at least 24 hours in advance
- Trips can be requested as far in advance as you wish
- You can request multiple trips
- All requests depend on the availability of our drivers and vehicles
- If we are unable to accommodate your request we will let you know by 12.00 the day before
