In addition to learning about innovative businesses in the area, the Council is interested in exploring opportunities to support business growth, including events, recruitment and apprenticeship paths and funding opportunities.
Arrow’s Braintree facility originally started as a three-person start up in 1992 called R D Trading Co. It grew to become a multi-million-pound IT asset Disposition Company specialising in the secure reuse and recycling of used computers. In 2015, they caught the eye of US global electronics distributor Arrow Electronics Inc.
Arrow similarly grew from humble origins as a radio parts retailer in New York in the 1930s to a multi-national $29.7B company today, providing components and services to more than 200,000 manufacturing companies across the world. Arrow acquired R T Trading in 2015 and grew the Braintree office to now include hundreds of employees.
Today, Arrow’s business works is in 80 countries, and is recognised for their zero-landfill approach to electronic recycling. Arrow’s Braintree facility has also won three prestigious Queen’s awards in sustainability development, international trade and enterprise innovation – the first in their industry to win all three.
Cllr Kevin Bowers, Deputy Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Braintree District Council, said: “It was great to meet the people behind the success of Arrow and get an insight into how they work and learn about their achievements and challenges as a business. Being able to identify support available for them to help their business grow and expand was the cherry on top of the cake.”
