More traders on the horizon for Witham market
A flurry of new traders will be joining Witham market next month in a bid to rejuvenate the current market offering.Published: Tuesday, 19th February 2019
From Saturday 2nd March 2019, residents and visitors will see an increased number of local independent traders coming to the weekly market as part of Braintree District Council’s move to bring a new cosmopolitan mix of stalls to the market.
The new food arrivals will bring stone baked pizza, burritos and nachos, Spanish paella and the return of PECK who were a huge hit at the street market last year, serving up their famous fried chicken delights.
For those with a sweet tooth, they’ll be plenty to stock up on with vegan and gluten free brownies, traditional fudge, cookies and cake.
Cider and cocktails will be served up from a great drinks bar too.
Unique gifts and homeware items will also be available, including ceramic handmade items, rustic crates, jewellery and tote bags.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “We want to ensure the market thrives, and bringing in a mix of new traders will bring a much-needed revamp to the market, making it a place people want to visit, shop and socialise. We are ambitious for Witham as a town, and from the success of the street markets in Braintree, we know we can achieve something similar here, so we’re encouraging residents and visitors to come and support the market so we can bring it back to life.”
Tina Townsend, Chair of Witham Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are delighted that a new and improved market is coming to Witham. This will hopefully bring more people to the town which will, we hope, increase footfall and give a much needed boost to other businesses in the town centre.”
