Braintree District Council has welcomed this announcement.
Councillor Lady Patricia Newton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing at Braintree District Council, said: “We welcome the news that Greater Anglia is prioritising rail infrastructure in our district. We support and encourage anything which will make a real difference to reliability, connectivity and journey times for our residents.
“We will continue to push for faster and more reliable journeys to and from Braintree, Witham and all the stations in between. We have been working with Essex County Council and Greater Anglia to represent our residents’ concerns and their need for improvements and we will all lobby Network Rail to improve our rail services. Put simply, the better the transport infrastructure, the more jobs and opportunities our residents and businesses will have now and in the future.”
