Waste collection information for Managing Agents, Landlords and Developers

Go Live Update

Update on the rollout of the new waste and recycling collection services for properties with communal bin stores.

While the service was originally planned to start on 1 June, we are extending the full introduction to September 2026. This will allow us time to work with you and complete the necessary information gathering and provide guidance to ensure the service is set up correctly across all sites.

We will continue to work with you to confirm bin store layouts, access arrangements and container requirements for your properties. This stage is essential to ensure the new service runs smoothly, and we appreciate your ongoing cooperation in helping us prepare.

In the meantime, residents can continue using their existing communal bins for general waste and recycling as normal. They can also begin recycling additional materials straight away in their current recycling bins, including glass bottles and jars, soft plastics such as film and carrier bags, and food and drink cartons (e.g. Tetra Pak).

Food recycling will now be introduced in phases between June and September. As part of this rollout, we will provide communal food recycling bins for shared bin stores, along with individual food caddies and liners for each household. We will work with you to arrange for these to be accurately placed. A welcome leaflet will also be supplied to residents, explaining how the service works and what residents need to do.

If you have already been in touch regarding the changes, we will make contact again shortly to discuss in more detail. If you have not yet confirmed how your site(s) will accommodate these changes, including the introduction of food recycling, please contact us at wastereview@braintree.gov.uk so we can support you in preparing for the new service.

We appreciate your continued support as we work together to deliver these improvements and prepare for the full rollout in September. We also encourage you to share this update with your residents to help keep them informed ahead of the changes.

I’m a Managing Agent – what should I do?

We’re working closely with Managing Agents and Landlords to prepare for the new communal waste and recycling service, now planned for full rollout by September. To help ensure everything is ready and runs smoothly, there are a few key actions for you to take:

Work with us to confirm your site details

We need your support to finalise bin store layouts, access arrangements and the right container requirements for each property. This is essential to make sure collections can operate efficiently.

Let us know how your site will accommodate the changes

If you haven’t already done so, please contact us at wastereview@braintree.gov.uk to confirm how your site(s) will manage the new requirements, including space for additional bins and food waste collections.

Prepare for the introduction of food recycling

Food recycling will be introduced between June and September. We will provide:

  • Communal food recycling bins for bin stores
  • Individual food caddies and liners for residents
  • A welcome leaflet explaining how the service works

You may need to consider bin storage space, the addition of separate paper and card storage and how residents will access and use these facilities.

Continue with current arrangements in the meantime

Residents should continue using existing communal bins for general waste and recycling. However, they can now also recycle additional materials in current recycling bins, including:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Soft plastics (e.g. film and carrier bags)
  • Food and drink cartons

Keep residents informed

We encourage you to share updates with residents so they understand what’s changing, what they can recycle now, and what’s coming next.

Support a smooth transition

The rollout has been extended to September to allow time to get everything right. Your cooperation is key to ensuring the new service is introduced successfully and residents feel supported throughout.

Further updates and guidance will be shared with you as we progress.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to deliver these improvements ahead of the full launch in September.
