Christmas is over, and it’s time to give your tree a second life. Don’t let it sit around – recycling your real tree is quick, easy, and great for the environment.

Here are the best options available in our area:


Garden waste collection

If you’re subscribed to our garden waste service, you can recycle your tree at home.

Simply chop it into smaller pieces to fit inside your garden waste bin or place the whole tree next to your bin for collection.

Farleigh Hospice “Farleigh Elves” collection

Support a local charity while recycling your tree.

Register and donate by 4 pm on Wednesday, 7 January 2026.

Collections will take place between 8–10 January, 9 am–12 pm.

Halstead Young Farmers charity pickup

Book a collection for a minimum £7.50 donation to support You Are Not Alone Rural Mental Health Support.

Collections will take place on Sunday, 11 January 2026, within eight miles of CO9 2JB.

Compost it yourself

If you have a compost bin or heap, simply cut your tree into small pieces and add it to your compost. It’s a simple, eco-friendly way to recycle.


Recycling centre drop-off

No garden waste service? No problem.

Book a slot at your nearest Essex Recycling Centre and take your tree for disposal.
