Braintree District Council completes essential upgrades at Witham Public Hall, ensuring it remains fit for the future.
The upgrades form part of a broader £1.5 million investment programme which will see improvements carried out at Silver End Village Hall, Marks Farm Community Centre and Halstead Leisure Centre too.
The council’s investment, costing in the region of £330,000, has funded important improvements, including the installation of a new heating and building management system. The new system controls and monitors temperature and energy use and halts the supply of gas when the fire alarm sounds - making the venue more energy efficient, safe and comfortable.
Witham Public Hall is a much-loved community venue, regularly hosting a vibrant mix of events including festivals, fairs, comedy nights, tribute bands, musical theatre and dance nights.
Cllr Kevin Bowers, Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Performance at Braintree District Council, said: “Witham Public Hall plays an important role in local life, bringing people together through a wide variety of events and activities. This investment ensures the building continues to serve the community safely and efficiently, while supporting our commitment to modern and sustainable public spaces.”
Stewart Adkins, Chair of Witham Public Hall Trust, said: “Such a significant investment in the fabric of Witham Public Hall shows Braintree District Council’s continuing commitment to this vital community venue, which welcomes over 15,000 visitors each year for the many and varied events that Witham Public Hall Trust hosts. The new heating system, together with the new air conditioning system that Witham Public Hall Trust installed through its own resources, should provide a comfortable experience for all visitors throughout the year.”
