Braintree District Council is set to give its community assets a £1.5 million boost

Silver End Village Hall

Braintree District Council is investing £1.5 million in a scheme which will see important community assets modernised ensuring they remain safe, modern and welcoming spaces for local residents.

The investment will fund essential improvement works at Silver End Village Hall, Witham Public Hall, Marks Farm Community Centre, and Halstead Leisure Centre.

The upgrades include the installation of a new heating system, new windows and the replacement of flat roofing systems. In addition, building management systems will be enhanced to better control and monitor temperature, lighting, energy use, fire and security systems.

Councillor Kevin Bowers, Cabinet Member for Finance, Resources and Performance at Braintree District Council, said: “These assets are at the heart of our communities and places where people come together to socialise, stay active and enjoy cultural and social activities.

The Council already invests hundreds of thousands of pounds per year into maintaining community facilities across the district; from community centres to leisure centres, parks and pavilions to windmills and cemeteries. By investing further in these halls and leisure centres, we’re making sure they are fit for the future, more energy-efficient and welcoming spaces for everyone, both now and in the future.”

The next phase of the project will involve writing specifications for tender and procuring the necessary works. All improvements will be planned in consultation with the tenants to minimise disruption and ensure a smooth delivery.

The scheme has been included in the budget for this financial year and forms part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving community infrastructure.
