Braintree District Council has announced that it’s Chairman for the year ahead will be Cllr Justin Wrench and Vice-Chairman will be Cllr Lyn Walters at it’s Annual General Meeting on Monday 28 April.
This will be Cllr Wrench’s first time as Chairman of Braintree District Council, having served as a local district councillor for six years. Cllr Wrench lives and works in the district as the Headteacher of Great Bradfords Junior School, a position he has also held for six years!
He has credited a strong leadership team and dedicated staff at the school that has allowed him to take on this civic role. Passionate about both education and community service, he hopes this will be an opportunity to combine the two and inspire young people to engage with local democracy.
Cllr Wrench has lived in the Braintree District for most of his life, growing up in Halstead and now living in Braintree, only leaving during his time at Hertfordshire University!
He has announced his focus for the year will be on community engagement and shining a spotlight on the individuals, groups and organisations who quietly make a difference every day. He is looking forward to meeting local volunteers and attending events that showcase our district’s culture, heritage and achievements.
The Chairman will decide on his chosen charity later into his year in office, to allow him to make an informed decision to reflect the spirit of the community.
Cllr Justin Wrench, Chairman of Braintree District Council, said: “I’m really looking forward to meeting a wide range of people across our district, celebrating the incredible work that takes place in our communities and representing Braintree with pride at a variety of events. It’s a privilege to be given the opportunity to serve in this role. I’m genuinely grateful for this opportunity and excited for the year ahead. I look forward to serving our district with energy, humility and enthusiasm.”
The outgoing Chairman, Cllr Lyn Walters, attended 77 events during her year in office.
