We have stopped our proactive licensing visits to make sure we follow social distancing until further notice.
You must not carry out special treatments during the current restrictions:
- tattooing
- ear piercing
- body piercing
- micro-pigmentation
- acupuncture
- electrolysis
- semi-permanent skin colouring
Special treatments
Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 anyone must licence their busness premises with us if they are providing:
- acupuncture
- tattooing
- cosmetic piercing
- semi-permanent skin colouring
- electrolysis
The purpose of the licence is to make sure that you:
- maintain basic health and safety standards
- comply with our local byelaws

Apply for a Special treatments licence
When you make your application you will need to:
- supply a passport photograph
- pay a one-off fee of £105.00
The fee covers:
- our administration costs
- inspecting the premises on a periodic basis
- registration of one operator
We carry out inspections to make sure you are maintaining the correct standards.
If you want to register more than one operator there is an additional charge of £28 per person.
