Special treatments
Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 anyone must licence their busness premises with us if they are providing:
- acupuncture
- tattooing
- cosmetic piercing
- semi-permanent skin colouring
- electrolysis
The purpose of the licence is to make sure that you:
- maintain basic health and safety standards
- comply with our local byelaws

Before you apply for a special treatments licence, talk to us about your proposals to make sure that your premise is likely to be suitable.

Apply for a Special treatments licence
When you make your application you will need to:
- supply a passport photograph
- pay a one-off fee of £125.00
The fee covers:
- our administration costs
- inspecting the premises on a periodic basis
- registration of one operator
We carry out inspections to make sure you are maintaining the correct standards.
If you want to register more than one operator there is an additional charge of £40 per person.
