Declaration of interest, obtaining a Hackney Carriage Proprietors Licence

The Council currently limits the number of Hackney Carriage Proprietors Licences it issues to 92 and is now in the position to allocate eight licences.  If you are the holder of a valid driver’s licence issued by this authority, you can complete the enclosed ‘declaration of interest’ form and return it to the Licensing Team by 17 March 2024.  Holders of Private Hire Exempt driver licences can submit a ‘declaration of interest’, however would need to convert their current driver licence to a dual driver’s licence should they wish to drive a Hackney Carriage themselves.  The completed form can be submitted by way of post or by email, unfortunately any ‘declarations of interest’ forms received after this date will not be considered.

Once all the ‘declarations of interest’ forms are received and validated, a random ballot will take place at the earliest possible opportunity at a Licensing Committee.

The first draw will be for four Electric Vehicles (EV) and the second draw will be for four Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV’S).

The successful persons will be notified as soon as possible after the draw and will then need to submit a valid Hackney Carriage Proprietors licence application to the authority within 28 days.  The vehicles must meet the current vehicle criteria.

Please contact the Licensing Team on licensing@braintree.gov.uk for a register of interest form.

For more information regards qualifying criteria, please see the allocation of Hackney Carriage Proprietors Licences Policy.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Licensing Team on 01376 557790.
