Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

The Government has announced (on 7 September 2026) that it is withdrawing its current decision on Local Government Reorganisation in Essex while it considers further legal matters and to allow for a review of the programme.

While we await further information, our focus remains firmly on delivering services for our residents and supporting our communities. Council services will continue to be delivered as normal and our focus remains on supporting residents, businesses and communities. The work undertaken to date with our partners has strengthened relationships, deepened our understanding of local needs and identified opportunities to improve outcomes for residents and businesses. Whatever the outcome of the review, this collaboration has created a strong foundation that will continue to inform and shape service improvements in the future.
