Health and Wellbeing

At Braintree District Council we value everyone. We care about our people, look after each other and recognise and appreciate the unique qualities in us all. We champion mental wellbeing, celebrating the positives and supporting one another during the tougher times. And we have a great range of health and wellbeing initiatives.

BHSF Employee Assistance Programme

There for you 24/7, this confidential helpline offers a chance to speak to an accredited counsellor about anything from anxiety to relationship issues, debt and finance management and bereavement. You’ll also have access to a range of resources online, including workbooks, podcasts and blogs.

Mental Health First Aiders

Our MHFAs are trained to spot signs of mental ill health and are on hand to advise, signpost and support. One of those days? Check in with one of the team in person, online or over the phone for a non-judgemental listening ear. Interested in becoming an MFHA? You’ll receive full training and join a friendly and supportive network, meeting regularly to discuss everything mental health and benefitting from expert talks and access to a range of online resources.

Menopause Mentors

Our experienced team offer support to anyone directly or indirectly affected by the menopause. Contact them for a confidential chat and information on external resources and advice.

Employee Recognition

We love to celebrate wins and show appreciation for the brilliant work our people do… and we love to hear your ideas and feedback. Nominate a colleague for Employee of the Month – they’ll be presented with a certificate and trophy by our Chief Executive if they win – or a team who has gone above and beyond for our quarterly Team Awards. Had a lightbulb moment? Send in a suggestion and if it gets the go-ahead, you’ll get an extra day of leave as a thank you.

Essex Wellbeing Service

We’ve teamed up with Essex Working Well, who offer free courses on all things health and wellbeing, from Laughter Yoga, Mindful Eating and help to quit smoking to Big Team Challenges and guest speaker sessions. And we’re proud to have been awarded Level 3, the highest level of their accreditation scheme, showing our ongoing commitment to making BDC a great place to work.

Virtual Meditation

Yes, you read that right! Take some time out from the day-to-day and join one of our online monthly meditation sessions.
