Submitting a petition

We welcome petitions and recognises that petitions allows the public to have direct influence on the democratic process and to raise concerns that are important to them.

All petitions sent or presented to the Council will receive an acknowledgement within 10 working days of receipt and the Petition Organiser will be kept informed throughout the Council's consideration of the petition and any action that will be taken.

Before starting a petition we would recommend that Petition Organisers read the Council's Petitions Policy.

The petition policy sets out the requirements for a petition, the petition process and the actions the Council may take.  The petition policy also sets out petitions which are discounted and the process for raising concerns if the Petition Organiser feels like the Council has not dealt with their petition in accordance with the petition policy.

Petitions can in a paper petition or an e-petition.  The Petition Organiser may decide their petition format or e-petition platform.   We have a e-petition page which can be used for the hosting of e-petitions
