Vice-Chairman of the Council

The Vice Chairman of Braintree District Council for 2024-2025 is Councillor Justin Wrench

Justin grew up and spent his childhood and early adult life in Halstead. When he was a toddler, Cllr. Pell was his Play Group Leader. He attended Holy Trinity Primary school and Ramsey School. After this he undertook his A Levels at Colchester Sixth Form studied a BEd in Primary Education with Science. The 3 years he spent studying at Hertfordshire University, are the only times Justin has lived outside the district.

Justin's first employment was as a teacher at Great Bradfords Junior School in Braintree. He spent 8 years teaching there and during this time, he met his wife Sarah and they have two children Lilia and Isaac and, as they had outgrown their first family home, in 2013 they moved to Braintree. By 2014, Justin was Assistant Headteacher and was successful in applying for his first headship at Shalford Primary School in the Three Fields Ward. After this, he spent two years as Headteacher in Clacton-on-Sea before, in 2019, he was reappointed as Headteacher back at Great Bradfords Junior School and remains in post today.

In 2019, Justin stood as a candidate and was elected in the ward of Braintree Central and Beckers Green and last year he was elected in the ward of Bocking Blackwater where he works and has lived for the past 10 years. Since being a member of Braintree District Council, Justin served has a member of the Planning Committee and the Local Plan Sub Committee. Since January 2022, Justin was appointed as Chairman of the Governance and Audit Committee and he currently also serves on the Corporate Scrutiny Committee.
