Allotments

Our allotment sites

We own and run 10 allotment sites across our district.

The average size for of our allotment plots is 126 square metres, however we do offer smaller "half plots" or larger plots which you can request upon making your application.

Each allotment site has at least two taps, which are free to use by all tenants.

You can find out where our allotments are by looking at our list of sites.

Apply for an allotment

We do not currently have any allotment plots available, however we are accepting applications for our waiting lists.

You can join the waiting list by filling in an allotment application form. Due to high demand, we cannot guarantee a waiting time on any of our lists.

Once a plot becomes available, we will email you to let you know and arrange for you to attend a site visit before accepting the plot.

If you wish to be taken off of a waiting list, please email allotments@braintree.gov.uk.

Allotment pricing

We charge £0.51p per square metre for an allotment.

An average-sized plot is 126m, so this means an allotment costs around £64.26 per year.

We review our prices each year on 1 April.

We send invoices on a yearly basis every August. These include any price increases for the year.

You can pay invoices using our online payments system.

Allotment rules

Our full list of Terms and Conditions is available to you upon receiving your agreement, or if you require a copy of these please send a request to allotments@braintree.gov.uk.

Structures and sheds

You need to email us if you want to build a structure or shed on your plot.

Your email needs to include details about your plot and the size and purpose of your structure.

We will send you an email telling you if we have approved your request.

Bonfires

You can have bonfires on your plot but you must follow these rules:

  • the bonfire must not encroach onto other plots
  • you must be respectful to neighbouring properties and gardens
  • you must not leave the bonfire unattended
  • you must extinguish the bonfire if asked to do so

Inspections

We inspect the allotments twice a year to check that you are not breaching any of the terms of your allotment agreement.

If we find that your plot is untidy or not to our expectations you will be issued with a written warning.

If you do not improve your plot, we will give you a 30-day notice to remove your items before we offer the plot to someone else.
