Subscription costs, refunds and how to pay
The full year’s subscription fee for your first bin will remain at £55 for 2025/26 and for a second or subsequent bin, the subscription fee will be £30. New or replacement bins cost £35.50 per bin. Each bin requires a separate subscription If you already have a green bin, you can continue to use this when you subscribe. If you have previously upgraded to a 240L bin, you may continue to use this for the same price until such time as the bin needs to be replaced, at which point a 180L will be offered (there is no longer an option to have a 240L bin). The work required to empty a bin is the same regardless of size, despite the difference in volume. The standard size for new, additional and replacement bins is 180L. If you currently have a 240L bin, you can continue to use it until it needs to be replaced at which point the replacement will be a 180L bin. We are no longer offering 140L or 240L bins. No, payment must be made in full when you take out the subscription. This enables us to budget and plan our routing and staffing accordingly. We ask that missed collections are reported by 12 noon on the day following the scheduled collection. We aim to return and collect within 2 working days. You can report a missed bin by: In the event of severe weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances such as a vehicle breakdown, we will make every reasonable effort to collect your waste. Please leave your bin out and we will get to it as soon as conditions/circumstances allow. No, the charge is non-refundable, although if you move to another address within the District, the subscription can be transferred to your new address. You must ensure that you take your bin with you and let us know your new address at least 2 weeks before your move to ensure there is no break in service. Whilst we had a much higher take up than anticipated and this has generated more income, the cost of providing the service has also increased in order to meet the extra demand. The first year of the service is still underway and there are many factors that will go into the calculations before a final position can be reported. The longer-term aim is for the service to be self-financing taking into account all related costs and overheads. In line with the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation & Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day cooling off period from receipt of your payment during which time you may cancel your subscription. After that date, no refunds will be issued. However, if you present your garden waste and a collection takes place during this period, you waive your right to cancel the subscription. You can cancel your subscription by emailing the Recycling Team at recycling@braintree.gov.uk. Refunds will be made within 10 working days. We aim to deliver bins within 10 working days following the end of the cooling off period.
