The table tennis tables are not funded through council tax.

The money comes from a developer contribution that was agreed as part of the planning process. This is known as a Section 106 agreement.

The agreement sets out how the money must be spent. If it is not used for the agreed improvements, it must be returned to the developer.

A Section 106 agreement is a legal agreement between a local authority and a developer.

It is linked to a planning permission and helps make sure that new developments contribute to the local area. This may include funding for new facilities, open spaces or other community improvements.

The proposed table is designed to be durable and resistant to vandalism and harsh weather conditions.

It has:

• a 10-year guarantee
• steel legs fixed into concrete foundations
• a heavy-duty frame
• a tamper-resistant net

We must follow our procurement process before appointing a contractor to install the table tennis tables and equipment lockers.

We expect the tables and lockers to be installed in early 2027.

You will need to download the free locker app and create an account.

To register, you will need a form of identification, such as a passport.

Once registered, you can:

• Select a locker in the app
• Access the equipment for up to 3 hours free of charge.
• Return the equipment to the same locker when you have finished
• End your session in the app
• Take a photo to confirm the equipment has been returned

Yes. The table has been designed to meet high accessibility standards and is suitable for people with reduced mobility.

It meets and exceeds the EN 14468 standard for table tennis equipment.

The manufacturer worked with Maxime Thomas, a para table tennis player and four-time Paralympic medallist, to help make the table as accessible as possible.

The table will also be installed on a tarmac surface to provide easier access.
