Braintree District Council has announced an Armed Forces Community Roadshow that will take place on Wednesday 1 July at Causeway House, Braintree.

The event is aimed at both serving and veteran armed forces personnel and their families to provide them with information on available support for housing, benefits, cost of living, mental health, employment and health and wellbeing.

Families can find out about accessing healthcare, housing and other support as an armed forces family based locally.

Attending the event will be organisations such as Help for Heroes, Walking with the Wounded, Forces Employment Charity, NHS’s Op Courage, Royal British Legion, The Poppy factory, Freedom Leisure and more.

The event will follow an Armed Forces Day reception hosted by Cllr Richard van Dulken, Chairman of Braintree District Council, with invited guests on Friday 26 June.

According to the 2021 Census, the Braintree District population consists of 2.7% regular Armed Forces veterans and 0.8% reserve Armed Forces veterans.

Cllr Charley Dervish, Cabinet Member for Better Communities and Armed Forces Lead, said: “This event will provide a valuable resource for serving and veteran armed forces personnel and their families to find out about local support from the council, NHS, charities and local community groups. It’s an ideal chance to see what’s on offer and find out more in a relaxed social setting.”

The event will run from 10am to 1pm in the Committee Room at the Braintree District Council offices at Causeway House. The event is free and no booking is required.
