Councillor Richard van Dulken has been elected as the new Chairman of Braintree District Council for the year ahead, following the council’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday 28 May.

The Chairman is the Council's civic figurehead and plays a key role in representing the Braintree district at official events, supporting community groups and charities, and chairing meetings of the Full Council to ensure fair and effective debate.

Councillor Richard van Dulken will be supported in his role by Councillor Graham Butland, who was elected as Vice-Chairman, with both councillors stepping into these roles for the first time.

Councillor Richard van Dulken, Chairman of Braintree District Council, said: "As a long-standing resident of the District I am honoured to have been elected as Chairman of Braintree District Council and would like to thank my fellow councillors for their support. I look forward to representing the district with pride over the coming year, meeting residents and supporting our fantastic rural and sustainable businesses as well as community and voluntary groups.”

The outgoing Chairman, Cllr Justin Wrench, attended 98 events during his year in office and raised money for Home Instead Charities and First Stop throughout the year.

Community groups and organisations, charities and local businesses are encouraged to invite the Chairman to attend events and activities taking place across the Braintree district via our website
