The North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) Joint Committee will consider proposals to implement on-street parking changes in Braintree District at its meeting on Thursday 19 March 2026.
The recommendation put forward to the March meeting is that the proposed changes are not implemented, and Braintree District Council supports that recommendation. This follows a public consultation managed by the NEPP in October and November 2025, which received more than 250 individual responses and an 800‑signature petition from Witham Town Council.
Feedback from the consultation highlighted concerns about the potential impact on high street businesses, limited payment options for digitally excluded residents, and accessibility issues for elderly, disabled, and mobility‑impaired users.
Cllr Graham Butland, Cabinet Member for Overall Strategy and Leader of Braintree District Council, said: “We are pleased to see that the recommendation is not to introduce these proposals. We have raised concerns about the proposals with the NEPP’s Joint Committee, and we are grateful that these views, along with the consultation feedback, have been carefully considered.
Based on the responses received, we feel that a decision not to proceed with the charges would be a positive outcome for our community.”
