Halstead Empire Theatre has credited a new digital projector with increasing ticket sales, allowing them to show more recent films at their independent theatre.
Halstead Empire Theatre Trust CIO received a grant of £50,000 from Braintree District Council’s Halstead Community Fund to fund the new system.
The digital cinema media system allows the cinema to keep up to date with how new films are distributed and have access to the latest films for screening.
Since the digital projector was installed in March, the cinema has seen attendance boom, with over 1000 attendees during the opening weekend of the Minecraft movie and general bookings on the increase.
On Monday 28 April, Cllr Mary Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, visited the theatre to see the new projector and meet the cinema’s hardworking volunteers.
Cllr Mary Cunningham said: “The work of the volunteers who keep Halstead Empire Theatre operational is amazing and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of both the sound and picture from the new digital projector. This will provide a lifeline for this community asset and an excellent leisure facility for Halstead and the rest of the district.”
Halstead Empire Theatre CIO said: “We couldn’t be more thrilled by the surge in visitors since installing the digital projector. This upgrade has been vital in increasing our capacity, and we are immensely grateful to the Halstead Community Fund Grant and to all our amazing volunteers, for enabling us to continue providing affordable culture to all.”
Tickets for films at Halstead Empire Theatre are £5 each and a full set of listings can be found on their website: https://empire-theatre.co.uk/
