Braintree District Council is very pleased to announce the resounding success of the recent six-week Beat the Street initiative, which saw more than 11,000 residents embrace active lifestyles and explore their local communities on foot, bike and scooter.
The free and fun game transformed the district into an interactive playground, with participants tapping "Beat Boxes" across Braintree, Halstead, Witham, Coggeshall, Kelvedon, Earls Colne, and Silver End, collectively travelling an impressive 68,000 miles as a community.
The initiative, supported by the Braintree District Council Health & Wellbeing Panel, Active Braintree Foundation, Essex County Council and Sport England, fostered a fantastic sense of community spirit and encouraged residents of all ages to incorporate more physical activity into their daily routines. Families, schools, community groups and individuals all took part and took the opportunity to explore their local area.
To celebrate this incredible achievement and to thank everyone who took part, a celebration event will be held on Friday 25 April at Braintree Museum and online from 2.30pm until 3pm, where the winners of the leaderboard will be presented with certificates and trophies.
Councillor Lynette Bowers Flint, Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Wellbeing, said, "The response to Beat the Street in Braintree District has been absolutely phenomenal. To see so many people of all ages getting active, exploring their local areas, and engaging with their community has been truly inspiring. This initiative has clearly demonstrated the appetite for fun and accessible ways to improve our health and wellbeing.
We invite everyone who participated to join us at the celebration event to mark this fantastic achievement and enjoy a final bit of Beat the Street fun together!"
