Braintree District Council is excited to announce the completion of the long-awaited transformation of an overgrown piece of land at Rose Hill, located behind the Lakes Road Industrial Park, Braintree
The improvement works undertaken started in December 2024 for a 10-week period.
With a total investment of £24,000 from the council and a contribution of £131,000 through Section 106 funding secured from housing developers, the site underwent significant improvements.
Residents’ feedback gathered from a previous public consultation included opportunities to increase biodiversity, seating and to provide a natural habitat for local wildlife.
The new design benefits from a variety of features, including themed sculptures commemorating the area's railway history designed by artist and sculptor, Graeme Mitcheson, play equipment suitable for children aged from two to eight years, wildflower meadows, shrub planting and a looped walk.
Councillor Gabrielle Spray, Cabinet Member for Planning at Braintree District Council, said: “This project is another example of where we’re pushing for more Section 106 funding from developers to benefit our communities. By incorporating feedback from a previous public consultation with local residents, we’ve worked closely with the contractor to create a welcoming space for the community to enjoy and relax.”
