Braintree District Council is thrilled to announce that the long-awaited upgrade for Spa Road skatepark in Witham has been officially opened to the public.
Chairman of Braintree District Council Councillor Lyn Walters, along with Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Transformation the Environment and Customer Services, Witham Town Mayor Councillor Lucy Barlow and local councillors visited the park on Friday 20 September 2024 to view the new facility firsthand.
The previous metal facility served skateboarders and BMX riders well for many years, however it was time for a modern transformation.
With an investment of £100,000 plus just under £25,000 Section 106 funds secured by the council for public open space improvements, the new design features quarterpipes including a volcano quarterpipe, grind rail, driveway fun box, half pipe, hubba ledge, flatbank, mini driveway, jump box, mini rollover and benches.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Transformation the Environment and Customer Services at Braintree District Council, said: "Now Spa Road is complete, we are delighted our skatepark improvement project is finished. This new facility offers something for everyone, thanks to the valuable feedback received during the public consultations. We appreciate everyone's involvement in shaping this fantastic addition to the community."
To celebrate the new skatepark, Braintree District Council, in partnership with local volunteers, businesses and other partner organisations, will be hosting a Skate Jam event on Saturday 5 October from 10:30am to 7:30pm featuring music, demonstrations competitions and much more to take part in. There will also be blade and board workshop lessons that anyone can attend, arrival time is 9:00am, ready to start at 9.30am.
Residents can find out more information about the Spa Road Skate Jam event by visiting the council’s social media or the website: www.braintree.gov.uk/skateparks
