Braintree District Council has started to upgrade the skatepark located at Weavers Park in Braintree.

The original skatepark, installed around 20 years ago, has been well-used by skaters and bike riders of all ages. Due to natural wear and tear, the council is keen to replace it with new and modern equipment.

Based on feedback gathered from residents and park users during previous public consultations, the new design will feature a layout that appeals to all, regardless of skill or preferred wheel types. The skatepark will accommodate everyone from novices to experienced riders.

Braintree District Council has appointed the design and construction contract to Bendcrete Skateparks, a well-known company within its field with over 24 years of experience in crafting skateparks nationwide.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Transformation the Environment and Customer Services at Braintree District Council, said: “Weavers Park is part of our exciting refurbishment programme to modernise our skateparks. We look forward to seeing visitors enjoy the improved facilities once the new skatepark is open.”

The improvements began in late June 2024, and the area is closed whilst the works are undertaken. Informative banners are being displayed on-site to notify the public of the temporary closure.

The work is likely to take around 40 days, with the renovation process entailing the removal of most of the existing structures and the installation of the new skatepark.

The council would like to thank visitors to the park for their patience whilst with improvements are undertaken and ask not to be tempted to enter the area until the works have been fully completed.
