Park Mark success for district's car parks

Car parks in the Braintree District have received national recognition for the sixth consecutive year.

13 car parks across Braintree and Witham have been given Park Mark Awards in recognition of the measures put in place working alongside the North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) to deter criminal activity and ensure the safety of people and vehicles.

The Safer Parking Scheme, launched in 2004, is intended to make sure that car parks across England have good quality management, appropriate lighting, effective surveillance, and a clean environment for car park users.

The scheme is celebrating its 11th anniversary this year, making it the most successful scheme for car parks within the UK. Park Mark acts as an assurance to car park users and to make them aware that these areas have been vetted by the police and have measures in place to create a safer environment for them.

Cllr Robert Mitchell, Braintree District Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Place and Chairman of the North Essex Parking Partnership Joint Committee, said: “I’m delighted that we have achieved the Park Mark award for the sixth consecutive year. It’s great to know that we are still being recognised for the work that is being carried out to keep our car parks clean and safe for members of the public”.

There are currently 5000 car parks with the Park Mark Award throughout the UK.
