Further economic support for businesses impacted by COVID-19 restrictions

Local restrictions support grant schemes are open to applications

Local restrictions support grant schemes are open to applications.

Further economic support is available for businesses impacted by the latest COVID-19 restrictions.

The application process for the two ‘Local Restrictions Support’ grant schemes recently expanded by the Government to support businesses is now open.

Businesses forced to close due to the national lockdown and those impacted by the social restrictions (imposed during the high alert level) can now apply for their grants from a £2.3 million fund.

Businesses forced to close under the national restrictions, from 5 November to 2 December, will receive grants up to £3,000. The scheme is also open to those businesses required to close, but operating ‘click and collect’ or those which have introduced takeaway services.

Businesses within the hospitality, accommodation and leisure sectors, which were not legally required to close, but were impacted by the social restrictions (from 16 October to 4 November) will receive grants up to £2,100 per month on a pro-rata basis.

Businesses should visit www.braintree.gov.uk/helpforbusinesses to find out more about the two schemes, the criteria, and the application process.

Cllr Tom Cunningham, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure at Braintree District Council, said: “As restrictions increase, we are taking the necessary steps to provide further financial support to protect businesses. We want to distribute this money in the most efficient way possible to keep businesses afloat, protect livelihoods and safeguard jobs. I urge any business that believes it is eligible to visit our website today and fill out the application form.”

Further support, in the form of an ‘Additional Restrictions Support’ grant, will launch next week to help more businesses.

Businesses can keep in touch with the council by signing up to its business bulletin: www.braintree.gov.uk/tellmemore or by joining its closed group on Facebook – just search for Braintree District Businesses.
