Job Details

Job title: Marketing and Communicaions Officer (social media)

Salary/Grade: Grade 4

Service: Marketing and Communications

Reports to: Marketing and Communications Manager


Job purpose

  • To develop and implement project marketing and communications in line with our Corporate narrative and brand.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To develop and implement effective communications activities for external customers and stakeholders to achieve the Council’s corporate objectives.
  • Develop and deliver well-executed and effective corporate campaigns in line with the Councils brand, vision and values.
  • Manage and oversee the Council’s corporate social media accounts in line with the Council’s social media strategy and develop this channel in involving more people in council issues, taking an active role in social listening and consider how services can use social media to reach their potential customers.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in digital communication channels through research and implement the latest trends.
  • Ensure consistency in terms of voice, branding, messaging and frequency of posting via social media.
  • Write and produce engaging content for a range of publications and digital channels, including social media sites, website, print, video and digital newsletters.
  • To promote the civic life of the council.
  • Handle media enquiries and create effective news releases to gain positive press coverage.
  • Manage all internal communications channels.
  • Commission graphic, print and website design.
  • Use project planning techniques to deliver projects and actively manage project budgets.
  • Collect and evaluate analytics to measure the effectiveness of communications activity.

Corporate Accountabilities

  • To take responsibility for maintaining own health and attendance. 
  • To support, contribute and comply with quality and governance procedures as directed by management.
  • To apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of employment and service delivery.
  • Any other associated duties detailed by Head of Service or his representative.
  • To advise Line manager if, at any time, the above duties and responsibilities cannot be performed.
  • Any other duties as required to support the business, including maintaining business
    continuity and during civil emergencies.
  • To apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Safeguarding Procedure in all areas of employment and service delivery.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience of handling complex communications campaigns
  • Wide breadth of multi-channel communications
  • Experience of producing a range of marketing materials
  • Relevant degree of equivalent experience
  • Experience in brand development and positioning
  • Experience of organising effective stakeholder engagement activities

Skills and Knowledge

  • A capable organiser, used to meeting deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge and a good understanding of Microsoft Office
