The garden is aimed at supporting adults with complex needs and seeks to create a nurturing and therapeutic environment where individuals dealing with mental health challenges can find support and empowerment through gardening and engaging with the community.
In total £25,000 from the Essex County Council Changing Futures Programme funding was allocated for the creation of the Community Garden - a share of which went to Braintree Recreation CIO to build the garden, Cressing Temple Community Group to build benches and raised beds, and to The Wilderness Foundation UK to facilitate community sessions and to buy tools.
Every Thursday, the Wilderness Foundation, renowned for its extensive experience in delivering counselling services, horticulture and outdoor learning activities, will be holding fully funded weekly gardening sessions for vulnerable adults at the garden.
The sessions have been funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in 2024/25 and 2025/26.
