VE Day 80
VE Day 80 - A Shared Moment of Celebration
Thursday 8 May 2025 will mark 80 years since Victory in Europe and war in Europe, as with the D Day anniversary last year, we would like to help promote any events you may be running to mark the occasion. Whether you’re lighting a beacon, holding a service or providing an event – we’d love to hear what you have planned.
Friday 15 August 2024 will mark 80 years since Victory over Japan. Many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in fighting in the Far East following VE Day. Victory over Japan would come at a heavy price, and Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945, which ended the Second World War. If you plan to mark this event, we would also like to hear of your plans.
Please send any planned events and information to marketing@braintree.gov.uk and we will include it in our round up of VE Day events.
VE Day 80 Street Parties and Events
Should you wish to hold a street party to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, please note the following deadlines.
Applications for road closures need to be submitted 8 weeks before the event, so by 13 March 2025.
To apply for a road closure on you’ll need to email us at events@braintree.gov.uk and we’ll send you an application pack, explanatory letter and a risk assessment form.
Applications for Temporary Event Notices (TENS) must be received by our licensing department at least 10 working days before the event. 10 working days excludes the day the notice is received and the first day of the event.
You must submit your temporary event notice 10 working days before an event and there is a fee of £21.
If there are less than 10 working days before the event, you need to apply for a late TEN.
The latest you can apply for a ‘late’ temporary event notice (TEN) is 5 clear working days before your event (but no earlier than 9 clear working days before the event). Clear working days do not include the day your council receives your application or the day of the event.
There is a limit of 10 late temporary event notices per year for an individual holding a personal licence and 2 for those who do not. Late TENs count towards the total number of permitted TENs.
If the authority vetoes a late TEN (police or environment health object) there is no right to a hearing or appeal, it is simply refused.
Standard TEN deadline: 22 April 2025
Late TEN deadline: 29 April 2025
