Our Community Safety Partnership, in partnership with the Essex Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner’s Office secured £297,202 of Home Office Safer Streets funding in 2022 for Witham. The partnership secured a further £300,223 of Home Office Safer Streets funding in 2023 for Halstead.
In 2025, the partnership secured £138,619 of funding for Braintree from the Essex Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner’s Office and their Safer Streets Fund.
The aim of Safer Streets is to improve people’s perception of safety and to reduce:
- Anti-social behaviour
- Neighbourhood crime
- Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG)
As part of the Braintree Safer Streets programme, our Community Safety Partnership will deliver the following activities:
- Street Warden employed by Braintree District Council
- Additional CCTV cameras in the town centre
- ASB & Crime Prevention Police Patrols
- Theatre production for second school students exploring themes including healthy relationships, sexist comments and consent
- Expansion of Neighbourhood Watch coverage
- Braintree Dog Day and Community Safety Day at Weavers Park
- Detached work with young people
